  2. Red gram thoran -  soak red grams for about an hour. In a cooker, add the washed red grams, add water just for the beans to dissolve. Add 1 tablespoon each of red chilly and coriander powder and a pinch of turmeric powder. Add ginger paste (or ginger-garlic paste).Add salt to taste.Pressure cook for 3-5 whistles..
  3. Dal - soak dal for half an hour. In a pressure cooker add a cup or two of water, once boiled,add the washed dal. Add sliced onion, green chillies and tomato. Add turmeric powder and red chilly powder as per your desire. Add ginger paste (or ginger-garlic paste).Add salt to taste. Pressure cook for 1-2 whistles.
  4. Tempering (common for both dal and red gram) - In a pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds.Once they pop,add dried red chillies, garlic pods.Turn off the heat and add the cleaned leaves. Season this over to both the dishes.
  5. Serve the platter hot and enjoy the scrumptious meal!.
